I have a 1990 volvo s70 and the computer is acting up. I want to get a used computer however I was told that it would have to be set with some software from the dealer.
The S70 model was not introduced until around 1998. You must have something else.

The computer, if taken from a similar model, should work just fine - as long as it comes from the same model and same engine configuration.
That is correct. There are 2 different set ups Bosch and Nippondenso . of course several different covolvo softwaremputers and throttle body units. They all have to talk to each other
note the 1st s70 was in 97 even know it was considered a 98 also 99 was the 1st year for the drive by wire. If it was a 98 I would agree with the other answer
